Where we Began
Our Mission
EBLI provides teachers with effective, efficient, evidence-aligned instructional practices so all their students become highly literate.
The EBLI team has been training and coaching teachers, parents, and education professionals for over 20 years to assist them in providing learners with the effective, efficient tools they need to succeed in literacy, but it all started here first:
In 1997, Nora Chahbazi’s 2nd grade daughter scored at the 98th percentile on the Iowa test for math – but on the same test she was reading a year below grade level.
As a concerned parent, Nora turned to the school for answers. “The school didn’t think it was anything unusual, and she was good at memorizing stories. So, I started researching reading…obsessively.” After launching into a full investigation, Nora found the the evidence-aligned instructional processes that she needed to help her child. Armed with the tools she’d discovered, Nora taught her daughter to read in three hours. She then began teaching other kids in her home, eventually leading to the opening of Ounce of Prevention Reading Center and the creation of EBLI: Evidence-Based Literacy Instruction. LEARN MORE
Since then, EBLI has trained thousands of teachers from around the world, creating an ever growing team of educators dedicated to providing evidence-aligned practices based on the science of reading. The collective mission is to teach the world to read, and read well.
